Starting a New Chapter: My Journey with Wrought Iron & Brass Bed Co.

Hello, I’m Amanda, and welcome to my very first blog! Buckle up, because here we go…

Before starting a new chapter with the Wrought Iron & Brass Bed Company, my life was quite orderly. We lived in the Midlands—Stephen left for work at 7 a.m., while I would drop the kids, Jack and Harry, off at school before heading to work. Our weekdays followed a routine, but everything changed on Fridays.

By Friday evening, our weekend bags were packed and waiting by the door. Within 30 minutes of Stephen’s arrival home, the car was loaded, with our two Labradors in tow, and we’d be off to Norfolk for the weekend.

This routine continued until October 2003, when everything changed. Stephen had a major health scare and needed to reassess his lifestyle. I believe everything happens for a reason, and in this case, it led to a huge change.

.

In October, I ordered two iron beds, but when they arrived, I was disappointed by the quality for the price I paid. The idea hit me: we could move to Norfolk and create our own iron beds. It was the change Stephen needed, and we’d get to work together in beautiful Norfolk.

However, reality set in quickly. Working with your partner comes with its ups and downs. But the best way I unwind after a busy day is by being outside. That’s when I saw Jamie Oliver’s program on battery hens, and I decided to rescue them. We’re now on our third batch of rescue hens, and they’re thriving. If you’re nearby, feel free to grab some free-range eggs from us—they’re truly delicious!

This journey has been incredible, and I can’t wait to share more. My next blog, coming June 9th, will feature my four-legged duo—my New Forest Pony and Irish Draught. Stay tuned!
