Appleton Farm, Norfolk

There’s something special about knowing exactly where your wool comes from, about being able to trace the materials in your mattress right back to the land, the sheep, and the people who made it possible. For us, that story begins in one unforgettable place: Appleton Farm.

Nestled deep within the royal Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, Appleton Farm was the first British sheep farm we partnered with over three years ago. There was Appleton before we sold a single organic wool mattress, before our products had homes across the country. They believed in our vision when it was still just a hope. And because of that, Appleton Farm will always be the heart of everything we do.

Their support gave us the foundation to build something different—a new way to produce natural wool bedding that’s sustainable, ethical, and honest. Today, their wool continues to bring comfort and calm to thousands of sleepers, nightly

More Than a Supplier – A Partnership for Change

When we set out to create a truly eco-friendly mattress, we knew we wanted more than high-quality wool. We wanted connection, traceability, and integrity. We wanted to support British farmers who cared about their land and animals as much as we do.

Appleton Farm was the first to say yes.

From the very beginning, they welcomed us in. They shared their story, their land, and their expertise. Their trust gave us the confidence to believe this could work—to create chemical-free wool mattresses using only the finest, most ethically sourced fleece from UK farms. That was over three years ago. Since then, our partnership has only deepened. We visit regularly, keep in close contact, and continue to source much of our wool from Appleton’s organically managed pastures.

The Sheep Behind the Sleep

There’s something deeply comforting about knowing that the wool in your mattress came from a place like Appleton. That the sheep who grew it were raised with care. That the land they grazed on is thriving. The farm has a history stretching back through centuries of royal footsteps and village stories. Every time we roll out a new wool mattress, we know we’re offering more than just comfort. We’re offering a connection. A story. A legacy. And for us, that legacy started with Appleton.

Appleton Farm is home to a thriving flock of just under 2,000 sheep. The majority are Aberfield crossbreeds—a breed known for producing wool with a beautiful balance of softness and resilience.

Why Aberfield wool? Because it’s everything we look for in a mattress filling. The fleece is naturally crimped, which helps create bounce and loft in our products. This means our wool comfort mattresses maintain structure while still feeling luxuriously soft. Aberfield wool is also highly breathable and moisture-wicking. This helps to regulate your temperature as you sleep, creating a cool, dry, and comfortable wool sleep surface—one that adjusts with you, season after season. It’s the perfect blend of comfort and practicality.

Organic Land, Naturally Raised Sheep

Appleton’s fields are more than picturesque—they’re organically managed. This means no artificial fertilisers, no pesticides, and no shortcuts. The soil is nourished naturally, encouraging biodiversity and resilience in the land.

Their sheep graze freely, roaming through lush pastures filled with nutrient-rich grasses. Healthy land makes for healthy sheep—and healthy sheep make for high-quality wool. The result is a chemical-free wool that’s gentle on your skin, kind to the planet, and incredibly effective at enhancing your sleep. This is the essence of what makes our all-natural mattresses so special. They begin on land like Appleton’s, where every decision is guided by respect—for the environment, the animals, and the people who rely on both.

Still at the Heart of What We Do

While we’ve grown since those early days, expanding to work with other incredible British farms, Appleton remains the heart of our wool network. Their wool still features in many of our core products. Their values still inspire how we work. And their trust still fuels our mission to offer better, more responsible sleep solutions.

Because choosing a mattress isn’t just about how it feels—it’s about where it comes from. It’s about transparency, traceability, and trust. With Appleton, we have all three. So when you sink into your sustainable mattress, wrapped in natural wool bedding, and feel that familiar, grounding comfort—you’ll know that part of that feeling comes from a farm in Norfolk. From Appleton. From the place where it all began.

A Farm with Royal Roots

The story of Appleton isn’t just about wool. It’s about land, legacy, and a quiet kind of history that shapes everything. Located within the grounds of the Sandringham Estate, a property owned by the British Royal Family, Appleton Farm sits near the site of the now-demolished Appleton House. Once the cherished residence of Princess Maud and Prince Carl of Norway, it was a place of peace and privacy. Their son—who would become King Olav V of Norway—was born on the estate.

During World War II, the royal family found refuge here, and even King George VI spent time at Appleton during some of Britain’s darkest days. These layers of history live quietly in the landscape—the still-standing round tower of St Mary’s Church, the scattered remains of a deserted medieval settlement, and the centuries-old fields that still nurture life today.

Amid this rich backdrop, Appleton Farm continues to thrive—not just as a working farm, but as a place of purpose, regeneration, and care.
