British-Made Beds Crafted From British Materials

We are proud to manufacture our handcrafted metal beds in Britain using traditional metalworking techniques. In fact, our collection is the only range officially certified with the Made in Britain® mark.

This certification confirms genuine UK manufacturing and trusted production standards. Wherever possible, we also use carefully sourced British raw materials throughout the manufacturing process.

As a small family-run company, we oversee every stage of production from our Norfolk workshop. Skilled craftsmen build each bed frame by hand, allowing us to maintain exceptional quality control, refined finishes and lasting structural strength.

We are also accredited by the Guild of Master Craftsmen — recognition of our commitment to traditional skills, honest workmanship and long-lasting furniture. When you choose one of our beds, you support independent British manufacturing while investing in furniture designed to last for generations.

Wrought Iron vs Cast Iron – What’s the Difference?

When choosing a metal bed, it is important to understand the difference between wrought iron and cast iron. Although both materials contain iron, they perform very differently over time.

Cast iron frames are created by pouring molten metal into moulds. While this allows for decorative detailing, it also produces a rigid structure that can become brittle with age. Repeated movement, heavy weight or small stresses may eventually lead to cracks that are difficult to repair.

Wrought iron behaves differently. It is stronger, more flexible and better suited to everyday use. Because it can absorb movement without becoming brittle, a well-made wrought iron frame remains stable, supportive and structurally sound for decades.

Over time, joints stay secure, rails remain straight and the frame stays quiet and comfortable. This durability makes wrought iron especially well suited to larger bed sizes, including king-size designs.

While cast iron may appear attractive initially, handcrafted wrought iron offers greater longevity, comfort and long-term reliability.

Why Choose a Handcrafted Metal Bed?

A well-made metal bed offers exceptional durability, timeless style and long-term comfort. Unlike many wooden frames, it is less likely to warp, weaken or loosen over time, making it a practical investment that can last for generations.

The elegant lines of a handcrafted frame work beautifully in both traditional and contemporary interiors. Victorian-inspired designs add character to heritage homes, while cleaner minimalist styles complement modern bedrooms with ease.

Durability also plays an important role in sustainability. Choosing long-lasting furniture reduces waste, lowers replacement costs and encourages more thoughtful manufacturing. Many metal frames can also be refinished in the future, extending their lifespan even further.

For customers seeking strength, craftsmanship and enduring design, a handcrafted iron bed remains one of the most reliable and versatile choices available.

Things to Consider Before Buying a Handcrafted Iron Bed

Choosing the right bed involves more than appearance alone. Size, support systems and mattress compatibility all influence long-term comfort and performance. Understanding these details helps you make a confident investment that will provide lasting support for years to come.

Choosing the Right Size

Selecting the correct size is essential for both comfort and visual balance. Before ordering, carefully measure your room, including doorways, staircases and access points.

Although metal bed frames often feel lighter and less bulky than upholstered furniture, scale still matters. A king-size frame offers generous sleeping space, while double and queen-size designs work well in more compact bedrooms. Matching the frame to standard mattress dimensions also ensures proper support and a cleaner overall fit.

Bed Base Options

Our handcrafted beds come with an FSC-certified pine slatted base as standard, providing excellent airflow and reliable support for most mattress types.

For additional comfort, hard tops and sprung bases can also be fitted. These options introduce greater flexibility and pressure relief, influencing how the mattress feels and performs over time. Choosing the correct base at the point of order can make a significant difference to long-term comfort.

Choosing the Right Mattress

The mattress plays an equally important role in overall sleep quality. Traditional bedstead mattresses pair particularly well with slatted frames, providing balanced support and natural ventilation.

Our natural and signature wool mattresses are especially well-suited to beds fitted with supportive base systems, where the additional structure enhances comfort and longevity. Selecting the right combination of frame, base and mattress helps create a more supportive and durable sleep environment.
