In ivory or cream, this metal bedstead feels soft, light, and refined. These finishes suit country, cottage, and traditional interiors while allowing the detailing to sit quietly within the space. In contrast, black with brass details creates a more formal and traditional look. This combination offers a restrained take on the “Bedknobs and Broomsticks” style while adding warmth and character.

Unlike mass-produced metal beds, we handcraft every Charlotte frame in our Norfolk workshop using certified British iron. Solid iron bars give the design strength and presence, while slim legs keep the overall shape elegant and balanced. Our team welds every joint by hand to create a clean, carefully finished wrought-iron bed frame built to last.

The higher footboard also allows Charlotte to sit neatly over one of our sprung or upholstered bed bases. This increases the sleeping height and creates a more luxurious feel. For the best comfort, pair Charlotte with one of our wool mattress options. A wool mattress provides breathable comfort, natural temperature control, and lasting support.

Charlotte’s Story

The Charlotte iron bed is named after Charlotte, one of our son Harry’s close friends from his school years. We didn’t have the business at that time, but the name stayed with us. When it came to naming this design years later, it felt like a natural fit.

Charlotte was calm, dependable, and quietly put together. She never sought attention, but she had a steady presence. That quality guided this iron bed frame. The design avoids heavy detail and focuses instead on proportion, height, and a clear outline once it’s in the room.

This iron bed was developed for customers who wanted something traditional without excess decoration. The higher footboard gives the bed definition, while the spacing and detail remain restrained. It suits bedrooms where the bed frame needs to feel established rather than decorative.

As with all our iron beds, the Charlotte is made properly. It is a true iron bed, built from solid iron bar through all load-bearing sections, not a lightweight metal bed frame made to imitate the look. We make each bed to order in our Norfolk workshop, under one roof, and weld every joint by hand so the frame remains stable over time.

The higher footboard also allows the Charlotte iron bed to work well with a sprung or upholstered bed base. This creates a better foundation for a pocket spring or wool mattress and helps the whole bed feel supportive rather than perched. When paired with the right mattress, the Charlotte becomes a complete and practical sleeping setup designed for everyday use.

Iron beds – powder-coated

We recommend that you clean your metal bed frame with a fresh soft damp cloth and dry thoroughly with a lint-free cloth.
Avoid cleaning products that may contain solvents or ammonia.
Authentic brass details will tarnish over time. As our brass is unlacquered, it can be cleaned using a quality brass cleaner. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
As our iron beds are heavy, we recommend a minimum of two people when moving or handling your bed.
Never drag your bed and always lift it using the side rails.
Heavy impacts may damage the powder-coated finish.
Please note that careless handling may cause damage.

Delivery and returns

Because every bed is made to order, lead times can vary depending on the collection and finish you choose. We’ll contact you at least two weeks before delivery with a provisional date, giving you plenty of time to confirm it works for you. If you need us to hold your bed until you’re ready, there’s no charge to rearrange your delivery or store it.

We handle our own mainland UK deliveries, so your bed stays in our hands from our workshop to your home. Our team will deliver to the room of your choice and remove all packaging when they leave.

Because each bed is made to order, cancellation and return arrangements depend on the bed you chose and whether it has been made to your individual requirements. Your statutory rights are unaffected.

Recycling

Getting a handcrafted wrought iron bed safely from our workshop to your home takes a fair amount of packaging. It’s there to protect your bed properly, and that will always be our priority.

You may notice that some of our boxes have been used before. That’s quite deliberate. If a box is still strong enough to protect another bed, we see no reason to replace it simply because it no longer looks new. Our packaging is chosen for the journey, not for how it looks when it arrives.

Reusing what we can means buying fewer new boxes and using fewer virgin materials, while also reducing the water and resources that go into producing them. And because we deliver our own beds, we can take the packaging back to our workshop and use it again.

We’ll normally unpack your bed for you and take the packaging away when we leave. If you’d prefer us to leave your bed wrapped, just let us know before delivery.

30 Day Sleep Promise

Choosing a handcrafted bed is an investment, and we want you to be completely happy with your choice. If you can, we recommend visiting our showroom, where you can see the beds for yourself, compare designs and finishes, and take your time deciding what feels right for your home.

We appreciate that a trip to our Norfolk showroom is a journey for many of our customers, so we offer a contribution towards your travel costs. It gives you the opportunity to see the craftsmanship up close, get a true feel for the different finishes and spend some time with us before making your decision.

Our Sleep Promise gives you a little extra reassurance too. If you’ve visited our showroom and seen your chosen bed and finish in person, but decide after delivery that it isn’t quite right, you can exchange the bed frame within 30 days, free of charge.

The Sleep Promise also applies to beds ordered online or over the telephone. You can still exchange your bed within 30 days, although collection, redelivery, dismantling and reassembly charges will apply. If you choose a different size or specification, we’ll adjust the price accordingly.

Our mattresses are certified British-made through and through — even the springs are made here. They’re handcrafted exclusively for us using natural fillings and British wool sourced directly from sheep farmers, so we can trace the wool in your mattress back to the farm it came from. Rather than using heavily processed layers, we hand-tease our wool to gently open the fibres, preserving its natural loft and breathability for lasting comfort. No foam. No synthetic fillings.
